Angry Birds Rio Free was a free version of Angry Birds Rio, released on March 22, 2011. It has 3 levels of each episode and also can hold 15 more levels if the player discovers the Golden Beachball. The game does not have Airfield Chase, Smuggler's Plane, Market Mayhem, levels 16-30 of Golden Beachball or the Rio 2 levels. The iPad version is called Angry Birds Rio HD Free.

It was removed in 2013 when its full version became free on iOS. However, the full version was discontinued in 2019 so Rovio could focus on the newer titles, and had its servers shut down in 2020, due to licensing issues with Disney, who bought the company who created the actual Rio film a year prior.
