Serving as a direct sequel to the original Angry Birds game, Angry Birds 2 utilizes new challenges such as multi-stage levels and boss battles (referred to as Boss Piggies). The game also introduces new features such as spells, cards, feathers, and a bird known as Silver.
Plot
After the events of Angry Birds, Chef Pig steals the eggs and puts them in an airship, leaving Red to gather the rest of the flock pursuing him and the rest of the pigs. After Chef Pig is defeated, the Foreman Pig takes over followed by the King Pig on defeat. It goes on to avoid the birds from recovering the eggs. The beginning cutscene was removed in later updates.
Game Progression
Unlike the original game, the levels are sectioned off into different chapter instead of episodes.
Gameplay
Basic Overview
The game is structurally identical to the original game, but some changes are used to make it feel brand spankin' new.
Cards
The biggest change to the game was the inclusion of cards. Similar to the bonus levels in Angry Birds Stella, you can choose whatever bird or spell you can use for a specific level.
Spells
These are powerful cards that can be brought into Normal and Hard levels in the campaign, as well as in the Arena. They are in addition to your normal cards, and when it is selected you are guaranteed to receive at least one randomly in the level. Spells will rank up if all the birds (and slingshot) have reached the specified level (unless all the birds' level are inconsistent, the lowest level will be applied to spells). For example, if all your birds are at rank 18, except Red who is at Rank 17, then the spells will be at Rank 17.

But be careful, there are pesky pig cards on all the normal floors who are ready to take what you have gained. You can exit the tower any time with the loot collected so far from the “Exit” button on the left. Even if you get a pig card, your journey is not over, you can pay gems to be able to continue.
Angry Birds references
- Like the classic look of Corporal Pig, he is depicted as a pig with a solider helmet.
- The Bubbles Adventure seems to be a reference to Ham O' Ween.
- Bubbles never appeared in The Angry Birds Movie 2 as he appeared in a photograph, however Bubbles does appear in the game.

In 2021, Rovio launched a program in which Angry Birds fans can upload their progress of the game, while in return get free merchandise and make advertisements to promote new updates for the game.
Reception
The game has received mixed reviews. Pocket Gamer gave the game a 7/10, feeling that the gameplay was a step forward in puzzle design and the graphics were gorgeous—however, it did not like the energy system that, after failing to complete a few levels, either makes the player stop playing or use gems to continue playing; overall the website thought the game was Rovio at its best. IGN awarded it a score of 6.7 out of 10, saying "Ever-shifting levels and limited lives take a lot of the fun out of smashing pigs with birds in Angry Birds 2."
Notes
- On the Angry Birds Facebook page, a 3 page prequel comic was released which serves as an origin story for Silver.
- The Tower of Fortune served as a inspiration for Shockwave's Spree in Angry Birds Transformers
- Some of Stella's voice clips are reused from Angry Birds Go!.
- Hal's appearance in this game is designed to be similar to his design in the Angry Birds movies, rather than using his design in games like Angry Birds Go! and the Rio 2 portion of Angry Birds Rio and even the Angry Birds Coca-Cola trailer. The reason for this was because Rovio stated that Hal's new beak was too long to appear in the game.
- The game also included new features from The Angry Birds Movie 2 which are Leonard as a extra character and Zeta as a boss and Eagle Island as a home set (except for Baby, Seal, Courtney, Garry, Ella, and the island Bird Island) The characters Leonard and Zeta and the island Eagle Island (also including Baby, Seal, Courtney, Garry, Ella, and the island Bird Island) appear in The Angry Birds Movie 2.
- This is the only game in the core series where no island Bird Island appears physically.
