The Black Bird (also known as the James Bomb, Kamikaze Bird, Stone Smasher Bird or Bomb Bird) are a species of bird in Angry Birds. It is the second most powerful bird in the game, and is especially efficient in taking out stone structures. Although extremely powerful, Black Birds are a generally placid species.
The Black Bird has great physical strength, much like the Big Brother Bird. It is among one of the birds consistently capable of penetrating a concrete wall when aimed directly at it. It can also penetrate other walls pretty readily, but its overall penetrating power is tempered by its time-activated ability.
The Black Bird looks like a bomb, and that's precisely its ability. Once the Black Bird hits anything, it glows red. About two seconds after doing so, the bird explodes, heavily damaging anything within a short radius and forcing back anything else within a larger radius. The Black Bird can also be made to explode early by tapping the screen or clicking the mouse.

Frankenstein Bird, a version of the Black Bird. He is a Halloween addition of Black Bird in the plush collection. He has two screws and stitches in his head and lower left parts of him.
Trivia
- Black Bird is the only playable bird without a tail. But it does in Knock on Wood and it's Plush Toys.
- The Black Bird is the first bird to not have a corpse sprite.
- In the Wreck The Halls promo , Black Bird blew itself up because of anger; but when seen skiing with Red Bird, he smoked from the blast. This proves that the Black Bird dosen't die if it "explodes" and Black Bird always been silly.
- The Black Bird appears, ironically, to generally be one of the more placid birds. While he tends to simmer or explode when upset or angry, he is noticably fun-loving and lightheated, even in the midst of conflict (one instance being in Wreck the Halls, when he is cracking visual jokes while skiing down the hill with Red.)
- On any genuine Angry Birds media except the game, the Black Bird dosen't have it's white spot.
- The Black Bird is based upon the Greater Antillean Bullfinch.
