These birds are shown to be in captivity, as a single Boomerang bird is enslaved inside a cage in Theme 6-4 by four Pigs. With the help of some birds, the Boomerang birds spins around and escapes captivity of the pigs. Later, in The Big Setup, the Boomerang birds are re-captured alongside the other birds, but they soon break out thanks to the efforts of a Big Brother Bird. Once again, the Boomerang birds help their fellow birds escape capture.
The Boomerang Birds' main ability is to swap directions in mid air. When the screen is tapped or clicked by the mouse, the Boomerang Bird will open its large beak and proceed to head opposite the direction they are headed and strike areas that the other birds can't reach. Besides this, the Boomerang Birds are fired much differently than the other species. When they launch, they're constantly spinning, and they're launched at a farther distance. The boomerang bird is based upon the Emerald Toucanet.
Advantages and Disadvantages
The Boomerang Bird is very good against wood and glass, but not great against stone. When its ability is used, it's often the longer (eventually a set time) the bird can break through entire columns of wood and glass.
A common disadvantage is when the bird is fired straight into the air, it's hard to arc it perfectly when it approaches the ground. Sometimes it can hit the ground and become a corpse immediately when it goes out of range.
Trivia
- Another way to use the Green Bird is by firing it backwards and using it's ability.
- Boomerang Birds are stylized after toucans and hornbills.
- A strategy to do incredible damage upon firing this bird is to fire backwards and quickly tap the screen or click the mouse.
- In Angry Birds Rio, they appear in Smuggler's Plane.
- Strangely, even though Boomerang Birds have green feathers, yellow ones appear when they disintegrate after becoming a corpse, but in the Angry Birds Google Chrome version, they are white.
- The Boomerang Birds will make the Yellow Bird's pain noises when being a corpse, thus making it the only one without an original pain noise.
- Boomerang Bird is also the only bird that rotates while flying from the slingshot.
- Boomerang Bird, along with all of the Angry Birds (except the Big Brother Bird) debuts in a short cartoon of Angry Birds: Summer Pignic Surprise Video.
- In the Angry Birds Seasons Ham'o'ween update, the Boomerang Bird has a new tone of voice.File:Angry-Birds-Walkthrough-19.jpgBoomerang Bird Walkthrough
- The Boomerang bird is the only Bird that is shown in the level before is played in as an unplayable item, and it does this twice.
- In his few fictional appearances (comics, animations), the Boomerang Bird is quite clumsy and seemingly carefree. His expressions throughout the comics seem to back this up, though his limited involvement and lack of dialogue makes his personality hard to confirm.
- Strangely enough,on Chrome level 6-4 its corpse sprite disappears and is invisible, but when you unlock him, his corpse sprite will be the Angry Birds Rio sprite and he keeps the Yellow Bird pain noises but the feathers change from yellow ones to white ones.
- Unlike the original Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds (Google Chrome) the Boomerang Bird's angry face is a little angry.
- Instead of the comics, it is the only bird to talk in promo videos, saying "ba-bye!" to some Pigs in the Summer Pignic Surprise Video.
- The Boomerang Bird has a different launch voice on Angry Birds Seasons. However, the PC and Mac version of Angry Birds Classic also has the alternative voice of the bird. The phone version of the original Angry Birds has the original select and launch voice. The original voice is a sound of a bird chirping noise while the new voice used on Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Classic is a "WAHAAAA!" sound.
