Now for today's agenda, I would think some boisterous yelling, some egg-stealing.
–King Pig, Angry Birds Comics Issue 3 (A Little Of The Top story)
King Pig Smooth Cheeks (or simply King Pig) is the main antagonist of the Angry Birds series. He is a comically obese pig. He is the current king of Pig City and serves as the leader of the Bad Piggies. He is passionate about eating three unhatched eggs that belong to a flock of flightless birds, so he continually orders his subjects to try and steal these eggs for him. Unlike the great Piggy Kings of the past, King Pig has never eaten a single egg in his life. Most pigs think he does eat eggs since he is already very portly. King Pig is terrified that if the other piggies found out he never ate any eggs, they will force him off the throne. King Pig has succeeded in stealing the eggs most times, but he is always caught by the birds, leading to him and his subjects to get popped, though Angry Birds: Slingshot Stories shows that this does not give them any harm. King Pig is the son of former king Leonard Mudbeard, who ruled long before the events of Angry Birds.
King Pig seems to be young in mind, having to sleep with the assistance of hearing storytelling, and crying a lot. He once had a brief relationship and marriage with a cabbage and accidentally went insane, but he ended up eating it.
Character
Nicknames: King Pig, Royal Fool, Golden King
Group Affiliations: Bad Piggies (leader)
Best Friends: Jim (formerly since A Pig's Best Friend), The Flock (Angry Birds Epic only)
Family Members: Leonard (Father formerly), Prince Porky (Angry Birds Epic) (son) the great Piggy Kings of the past (ancestors)
Game Appearances: All before Angry Birds Action!, except for Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Stella (only cameos)
Appearance
History
Smooth Cheeks was built to King Leonard Mudbeard. His father invaded Bird Island and stole the eggs while exploding the Bird Village with the pigs but was defeated in the fight the pigs had with the pigs. Smooth Cheeks took care of Pig City as a king after his father ruled it, he tries to eat the eggs but the birds always get them back. The fact that he can't accept defeat, only thinks about eating, is not smart and cries a lot is probably because his father spoiled him instead of teaching him how to live.
Personality
King Pig is very greedy; he will eat his deserts down to the plate. He is often selfish and thinks only for himself, not caring about the Minion Pigs he is supposedly sacrificing. He is narcissistic, thinking he is the only pig that matters, even though other pigs do most of the work when it comes to his plans. His biggest dream is to eat the eggs, the food that is not a dessert, in order to fully make the elder pigs proud and his hunger satisfied. He is also childish, crying a lot and not accepting losing. Angry Birds Stella Super Interactive Annual 2015 mentions that he exiles Minion Pigs to Golden Island, likely for petty reasons like them smiling on a bad day of his.
In The Butler Did It!, it is shown that his brain is small and that he can't think right, saying to Corporal Pig that he was the one that ''killed'' a pig and was arrested. He cries for simple things as he once lost a teddy bear and the police had to be called to take it from Terence, that only gave the teddy bear back by giving him a movie plush toy of himself, as seen in Toy Hoggers.
Relations
The pigs only obey him because of the crown. In Where's my Crown?, he lost his crown and was treated as a regular minion pig and not as a ruler. Eventually, when a pile of garbage containing the royal crown was dumped on him, Corporal Pig and the Apple Vendor Pig (who denied service to him) were shocked, and used as the wheels of the vendor's cart, while eating all the candy apples.
In Love is in the Air, the pigs threw a cabbage accidentally on his head, he briefly hallucinated and due to this - fell in love with the cabbage (thinking it was a Queen Pig). He then started eating feasts with it (with his servants mocking him) - eventually leading up to a proposal on a gondola - much to the joy of the king's servants, one even crying. Eventually, he and the cabbage married at the castle by Chronicler Pig. A wedding feast was held, with Corporal Pig ruining it - returning him to sanity; with a cork hitting the king. Sane, he noticed the cabbage and ate it, and mourning was held for the queen consort. He then fell in love with Corporal Pig, with his hallucinations depicting him as an opera singer.
Game Appearances
Angry Birds
Poached Eggs
In time, the birds' eggs got stolen, while Red, Chuck, Jay, Bomb, and Matilda looked the empty nest, and they were confused and sad. Chuck noticed it was King Pig and his helpers. All the birds noticed and got angry and placed the slingshot, to fling themselves to destroy the piggies' fortress - eventually destroying multiple Pig Fortresses, defeating many Minion Pigs, injuring Corporal Pig and Foreman Pig before severely injuring the king.
Mighty Hoax
King Pig once again stole the eggs, but rather than simply fleeing, he placed cardboard cutout eggs in the birds' nest. The birds weren't fooled by this trick, and once again released their vengeance on the pigs for stealing the eggs the second time. There was also a cardboard cutout King Pig used to distract the birds. However, King Pig was behind it- to make it "move". In the end, the birds didn't defeat him. Instead, they just destroyed the cardboard cutouts. The birds finally found out about the trick and the real King Pig escaped into the jungles of the island.
For some reason, the cardboard King Pig can move and do things such as laugh, smile, and blink. However, the King Pig may have designed it like that to heighten the illusion that it was real. It's also possible that the King Pig placed the cardboard cutout and escaped just before his defeat.
Danger Above
After the birds destroyed the cardboard cutout, it was revealed that he and his minions stole the eggs and flew away on a raft to the jungle, cities, and the clouds. The eggs were in a bucket hung below the raft. The birds followed the pigs to the jungle. While trying to battle the pigs, the birds free Hal, a newfound or long-time companion who was captured by the pigs. Among fans, he is known as the Boomerang Bird. The birds rescue him and he helps the birds defeat King Pig, retrieve the eggs, and destroy the Small Pig's fortress. In the end, King Pig was injured again and hung upside down by the birds.
The Big Setup
King Pig and his minions kidnapped the entire flock to prevent the birds from defeating them and stole the eggs. Terence - the second largest bird after Mighty Eagle, wanted to exact revenge on the pigs for kidnapping the other birds. In the meantime, the pigs attempted to reconstruct their forts (e.g. Poached Eggs 1-1 is reconstructed in The Big Setup 10-1). Anxious, Terence went to destroy the fortresses. He then saw Hal kidnapped again and freed him. Together, they freed the Flock. In the end, Terence and Hal encaged the king. The birds were impressed by Terence who again gave him membership into the flock.
Ham 'Em High
When King Pig was freed, he, the Foreman Pig, and a Small Pig use a lasso to drag the eggs from the nest to them, trying not to get too close. This brings both the Birds and the Pigs to the desert, where the pigs are wearing cowboy hats and fedoras. King Pig, on the other hand, is wearing a big sombrero. In the end, the birds rip King Pig's sombrero over his head.
Mine and Dine
King Pig and the other pigs try digging underground. The pigs, wearing mining hats and carrying pickaxes, dig a hole near the birds' nest and swipe the eggs from there. They escape through a giant cave, but the birds quickly follow. In the end, the birds shoved King Pig into his mining helmet.
Surf and Turf
King Pig orders his minion pigs to steal the eggs with balloons on the beach, while he and the Foreman Pig watch. In the end, the Birds defeat King Pig yet again.
Birdday Party
The Birds notice that their eggs are gone and pieces of cake are too, Bubbles is worried. The Pigs stole the eggs, along with the missing pieces of cake and a candle. They are covered in frosting. The Birds do not defeat King Pig in the last level because he was not there; however, King Pig was defeated by the birds in the end, covered in frosting. In the new update for this episode, the Moustache Pig takes the King's place when level 18-15 is beaten. He is then defeated in level 19-15.
Bad Piggies
King Pig teams up with Ross and the Mechanic Pig to get the eggs. He is defeated in the end. Strangely, Ross survived unharmed.
Red's Mighty Feathers
King Pig commands the pigs to make vehicles to get the eggs, the birds defeat them all, but King Pig escapes and creates a new vehicle.
Short Fuse
King Pig uses science to test the new, useful potions, but was unaware that Bomb got covered in a purple potion, powering him up with the new Shockwave ability. After this, the pigs use their fortress to protect themselves, the birds defeat all of them and reach King Pig, which has robot Corporal Pigs, they defeat and cover him on a green test potion. This is the last episode to feature King Pig in his regular form as a boss, likely due to the king's phasing out after the movie; it can be assumed that after this episode, he started to demand Foreman Pig to do the job.
Strategy
King Pig is as hard as a large stone block. Use either Terence, Bubbles' inflation, Matilda's Egg Bombs or Bomb's explosion to pop him. If possible, make a stone collapse on him. It can weaken him, and if hit multiple times, he will be defeated.
Apptivity Toy
There is a King Pig Apptivity toy made by Mattel. It used to work with the iPad and Nook Tablet version of this game and its free counterpart. It unlocks the King Pig level, which lets you play a randomly selected mini-game. It works like Telepods, though it does not have a QR code on the bottom and it is not scanned through a camera lens.
Angry Birds Seasons
Trick or Treat
King Pig orders a Large Pig to scare the birds as a ghost and steal the eggs. He and the Large Pig are defeated in the end.
Angry Birds Space
Pig Bang
The King appears in the final level, with a tank that shoots vegetables and rocks in bubbles. Pop the bubbles containing the rocks. You can also hit him with Fire Bomb Bird. In the end, after destroying the tank, he appears to be defeated, but he pushes a button, revealing a UFO. He escapes to Cold Cuts and the birds pursue him to the next planet.
Cold Cuts
King Pig now uses his UFO (with mechanical claws) to move on the screen. To defeat him, you need to blast the TNT, hit the ice, or the rocks. If you do these methods (or one or two of them), you defeat him. In the cutscene, he appears beaten and battered in his destroyed UFO. He returns to Pig Dipper.
King Pig does not appear in Angry Birds Space after the planet Cold Cuts, until Pig Dipper, which he appears in the boss fight.
In the boss level of Cold Cuts, if you get the Ice Bird close enough to his UFO, he will freeze.
Pig Dipper
King Pig is shown again, this time in a submarine, which carries the Eggsteroid on the back. You can hit him with Fire Bomb or Terence, use the Lazer Bird to pull the Chains with Anchors, or hit the rocks or TNT. In the end, he's shown beaten again and does not try to retreat.
Brass Hogs
King Pig contracts Hektor Porko to build machines to defeat the birds, Hektor Porko does it in all previous levels. King Pig reappears as a boss in level 9-30, where you have to defeat him in a stone machine, similar to beak impact.
Angry Birds Friends
King Pig appears in this game, functioning the same way as he does in the others. In newer versions of the game, he has an exclusive Toons appearance, which makes him look more organised and formal. He appears in the countless tournaments for the game, along with the Facebook version's now defunct episodes. For more information on the tournaments, see here.
Poached Eggs and Mighty Hoax
These episodes return from the first game, and King Pig' function in them is identical.
Surf and Turf
This episode originated in this game, but was later added to the original Angry Birds. His role is identical to the re-edition from the first game.
Pigini Beach
The sequel to Surf and Turf, Pigini Beach features the pigs continue to steal the eggs from the beach on their time off, this time with a grappling hook. King Pig, as usual, is featured in the final level of the episode, Pigini Beach 15. This episode's ending cutscene features him in his corpse form.
Pig Tales
Minion Pigs use magic to send Red, Chuck and Matilda to a wonderland; the birds end up seeing the king in the distance, wearing his Toons style crown for unknown reasons. The Piggy King is seen in Pig Tales 30, where he has a flower where his crown would be, and he is attached to many Helmet Pigs in a curve. Pig Tales' ending cutscene features Red using fantasy mushrooms to defeat the king and save the eggs.
Piggy Tower
In this mode, King Pig first appears in Piggy Tower 19, the level where Hal is introduced.
Bad Piggies
King Pig appears in the spin-off as a playable pig unlocked in level 1-25, although he appears to be formally a main character. He is mostly requested to reach the end in a couple levels, but this can be also done for a star. He fills four squares when building and is very heavy, not to be launched by TNT explosions.
Ground Hog Day
Rise and Swine
In the story, he requests Ross to find the Eggs and often gets angry because it fails, but in The Road To El Porkado, when King Pig requested Ross to find the Golden Pig Statue, he found it and made him very happy, while eating desserts made by Chef Pig.
Angry Birds Star Wars (non-canon)
King Pig appears as Emperor Palpatine (Darth Sidious), where he appears to have a faded green color, a taller crown, and a black robe.Emperor Palpatine first appeared as an enemy in the Facebook version of Angry Birds Star Wars, in levels 1 and 3 of the weekly tournament from April 8 through April 14, as a blue, holographic image of Emperor Palpatine generated by a base projector. He'll be laughing as you start to face his hologram on a certain tournament level. Hitting the Hologram or activating an ability on the hologram may scare him, but doing these attacks won't do any damage, so you have to destroy the hologram's weak point: the base projector that generates Palpatine's blue, holographic image. Succeeding in destroying Palpatine's Hologram will grant you 3000 points.
He appeared later in Death Star 2 as the final boss, where he is hard to be defeated; Only Darth Vader can defeat him. He appears launching lightning bolts at everywhere, he sits in a chair that has a cooldown of 4 points, which are skipped if a bird hits the chair, he will often start spinning, which launches the chair to high places. After hit by several things and almost defeated, Darth Vader will jump into the slingshot and using his ability against Darth Sidious, you defeat the pig, completing the level.
He also appears in the cutscenes, which he shows to hate Luke Skywalker (Red), watching the fight between father (Darth Vader) and son (Luke), with popcorn and milkshake. However, he was killed by Darth Vader giving his life to save his son.
Of note that King Pig's Emperor Palpatine design bears a resemblance to Corporal Pig's Toons design.
Angry Birds Star Wars II (non-canon)
Like the first Star Wars game, King Pig plays Darth Sidious (Emperor Palpatine). He can send out a ray of electricity to break objects and birds. He first appears in the second episode. A holographic version of him, which allows Darth Sidious to bypass destructible objects if he has not activated his powers yet, can be bought in the shop for use in any pig level (and bird level if the player chooses to buy the bird side expansion).
Angry Birds Go!
King Pig is a playable racer in Angry Birds Go!; he is the fourth character to be unlocked in version 1, and the sixth character to be unlocked in version 2 (neither of which counting Red). In version 1, he is unlocked within Rocky Road, though version 2 simply has a page dedicated for his unlock, as does all other characters. Like the rest of the cast, King Pig appears in 3D for the first time, which allows him to be more expressive than before. King Pig' special ability is hovering over the stage using balloons, in a similar manner to Stella's bubbles. It can be used well, but King Pig won't be able to collect coins, splat fruit or travel very high.
Angry Birds Epic
In Epic, King Pig orders his subjects to steal the eggs once more. For most of the game, King Pig doesn't play a big role, though he is seen in the Level Failed! screen. King Pig later appears as the fake final boss, along with Wizpig and Prince Porky. His attacks are Burp, which does really low damage but blocks the Rage ability of the target, and Weeping Cry, where he charges for two turns and cries. This attack does not affect. After the player defeats the first Final Boss wave, Wizpig steals King Pig's crown and the last egg with magic, meaning the king wouldn't be treated as such. King Pig begins to cry, and the birds give chase for the true Final Boss of the game, though they're likely only doing it for the egg. Once Wizpig is defeated for good, Red trades the crown with Porky, who subsequently gives Red his egg. King Pig appears in the final scene of the game, where the birds and pigs look into the sunset.
King Pig, Prince Porky and Wizpig are the only bosses inside of a castle in Angry Birds Epic.
Angry Birds Transformers
Angry Birds Fight!
Angry Birds 2
The king appears in the second Core Angry Birds game as the last out of three boss pigs, with the others being Chef Pig and Foreman Pig. As with the other boss pigs, he has a visible health bar that has to be depleted to defeat him. The player can also defeat him instantly by making him fall down a bottomless pit. He takes control of the airship when the chef and foreman are beaten.
Angry Birds POP!
King Pig' latest appearance was in Angry Birds POP!; he was added to the game in, ironically, August 2016, in every boss battle, replacing Gale who had previously been the character in boss battles. He appears in the Defeat King Pig levels; the player uses Red in them, and they must battle Pop to the Top, while King Pig tries to foil their progress.
Angry Birds Ace Fighter (canceled)
King Pig would have appeared in Angry Birds Ace Fighter as a boss. He would pilot an aircraft with boxing gloves and cannons, and he would be accompanied by two other pigs. King Pig also appeared as Pirate King Pig, where he piloted a pirate ship-style aircraft. Both of the King Pig bosses lack his crown, so it wouldn't make sense for the other pigs to know he's the king, since they only trust him due to his crown.
The regular King Pig's description reads:
King Pig took off in aircraft and it looks like he has been transformed by magic.
Pirate King Pig's description reads:
If you want to take these eggs, you'll have to beat me and step over my body. It's not going to be easy.
TV Show Appearances
Angry Birds Toons
King Pig appears as an important character in Angry Birds Toons. He appears in many episodes, and most of those episodes feature him as a main character. Toons was the first piece of media to really show what King Smoothcheeks' life was like, introducing things like how he isn't very smart, along with his love of eating. For a full list of King Pig's appearances, see List of Angry Birds Toons Episodes.
Angry Birds Stella Toons
King Pig doesn't make a visible appearance in this show, but a character similar to him makes a cameo in The Golden Egg, in the legendary Golden Egg book. Gale replaces the pig's image with hers, thus making her more greedy with power.
Angry Birds on the Run
In the YouTube show On the Run, King Pig appears after over two years of absence in Angry Birds media. He appears as his TCC plush, which was also released to promote Telepizza. In it, he, along with two Helmet Pigs, flew out of the phone shortly after Red, Chuck and Bomb. The pigs followed them and showed themselves in The Pig Reveal. For a full list of King Pig's appearances, see the list of episodes section of the On the Run page.
King Pig' portrayal in the series is also very different from how he's portrayed in other media. He speaks with an English accent, and appears to be a smart and polite pig rather than the idiotic version from Toons.
Trivia
- As there can be only one Piggy King at a time, King Pig is the rarest variety of pigs. When he does appear, no more than one of him can be in the stage. The only exceptions are Golden Egg Level 13 and Eggsteroid 7, both of which feature four King Pigs. Golden Eggs may or may not be canon since they are never mentioned in the Official Guide, and Eggsteroid 7 is simply a recreation of the board game Trouble using pigs, which likely means logic may not be needed.
- Before the Chrome version, when he is nearly defeated, King Pig seems to look angered.
- In older Mattel games, King Pig was represented without his crown, and there was no crown accessory to use with him, so it was hard to tell if he was actually the king.
- In Where's My Crown?, the other Bad Piggies seem to be unable to identify him as the King Pig when he lost his crown, despite his unusual shape, and the fact that the Pigora states that the biggest pig is always the king. It is likely due to their stupidity.
- In A Fistful of Cabbage, he is also a Sheriff of the west, but not really.
- In King of the Ring, he was shown that he was a wrestler to take El Porkador's place in order to follow his dream, but he was easily pummeled by the Goliath Pig.
- In some of the Angry Birds ending cutscenes, King Pig' crown falls off. This can't happen in the game, despite hitting him getting hit with the birds.
- To keep his secret that he has never eaten any eggs, King Pig regularly arranges Egg-Eating Ceremonies. He makes fake eggs using a mixture of grass, chalk, and mud as he has no eggs in his royal treasure chamber.
- Due to him likely getting replaced with Leonard, King Pig is one of the few characters to have not upgraded to the Movie appearance.
