- Red is a Bird from the Classic Dimension
- "Keep calm and help me find the bad pig. Otherwise I might get angry."
- — Red, Angry Birds Code
Red J. Bird is the main protagonist in the Angry Birds series and games created by Rovio Entertainment. He is the first bird to play with. He is also the leader of the Flock. First introduced in 2009, the character is the primary bird used in marketing to promote the series. Red is a Northern Cardinal. Red is the first bird used in the game, and he has appeared as a playable character in every version and episode of the game released so far (except for Angry Birds Stella), though he is not necessarily in all levels. In the Fuji TV exclusive episode: Sakura Ninja, he appears dressed as a ninja. This was the first time he has appeared in costume in any game (this is technically not completely true, because in both golden eggs in Go Green, Get Lucky in Angry Birds Seasons, he wears a green leprechaun hat), and completely new game sprites were created for this episode. He can be considered the unofficial mascot of Rovio and the official mascot of Angry Birds
After the game's release in 2009, Red has become an icon for mobile gaming and an overall globally recognized character.
Appearance
Red has two red feathers on top of his head, and has two black eyebrows that form a unibrow when it is in default. He has 3 tail feathers, two maroon eye bags, and two maroon spots on either side of his face. His beak is yellow and he has beige chest feathers. In his earlier cartoon appearance until the four-part movie Angry Birds Bing, Red's appearance remains the same as he gains three feathers in each sides instead of two maroon spots in either side of his face and his chest feathers are white.
In Angry Birds Toons until Angry Birds 2, Red's appearance is based on his game counterpart of the first Angry Birds.
Character
Personal Data
- Name: Red
- Known aliases: Red Bird, Normal Bird, George (concept name), Angry Bird, Mr. Red, Normal Bird, Original Angry Bird and Cardinal Bird
- Group affiliation: The Flock, The Flock in Space, The Flock in Patch Land, The Flock in a Galaxy Far Far Away
- Family: Unnamed father, Unnamed mother
- Voiced by: Antti Pääkkönen (Angry Birds Toons)
Ability
Starting at the first level, Poached Eggs, Red is able to cause great damage to the weaker structures, but as the player advances through the levels and episodes, they soon discover that Red doesn't have much strength compared to the other birds, and can usually only shatter about one or two long wood or glass block in every turn.
Red is useful through all levels, as he can be used to finish off areas that have been weakened by other birds. He is good for starters.
In the episode Red's Mighty Feathers, he gets feathers from the Mighty Eagle and once flung, green arrows will appear to the nearest pigs and when the screen is tapped he will target the nearest one. However, due to fan's negative feedback, it was changed so that Red would directly target wherever the screen is tapped.
However, in Angry Birds 2, Red's ability has changed. Tapping the screen will make him yell. His yell makes a red sound wave which can topple things over; similar to Luca from Angry Birds Stella. His scream, however is more to make towers fall, instead of flinging things everywhere. This is useful when there are strong structures behind some sort of tower, so that the tower crashes onto the building behind it.
Personality
Red is the leader of The Flock, a group of birds dedicated to protecting their eggs from the villainous pigs. Red is loyal, and is willing to fight to protect the eggs as well as his fellow flock members. He is typically very confident in the abilities of the group and leads most of the attacks against the pigs. Red also has anger management issues, and has the tendency to be blinded by rage from things that may not typically anger someone.
Game appearances
Angry Birds Classic
In Angry Birds, and its Chinese version, Red appears as one of the main playable characters, first making his appearance in the very first level of Poached Eggs, or the first level of Tutorial in the newest versions. He would later appear in every other episode as a playable character, except in The Big Setup. In the levels and most cutscenes, he appears in his first design, though the card of Tutorial, the shop, the profiles of The Mighty League, and the cutscenes of Piggy Farm and Jurassic Pork have him in his design from Angry Birds Toons.
In gameplay, Red is a common bird used mostly to weaken buildings due to him being rather weak, losing his momentum instantly when he destroys glass. However, the Power Potion and the King Sling power-ups can make him stronger. When tapping onto the screen when Red is launched, he will scream, but this will not do anything. Each Red the player does not use to complete the levels will award them with a bonus of 10.000 points.
In Red's Mighty Feathers, and some of the levels of Flock Favorites and Golden Eggs, Red was transformed after being surroundered by some of the Mighty Eagle's feathers. When tapping anywhere onto the screen when this Red is launched, he will head towards said direction until he crashes onto something. Nonetheless, he is still as weak as in his normal state. This version of Red also appears as the only playable character in the Egg Defender minigame, in an unlimited number. Here, the player will have to use the least amount of Reds as possible to destroy the pigs' vehicles and prevent them from stealing the egg. Unlike in other episodes, the player cannot use power-ups on Red in this minigame due to them being disabled here.
Angry Birds Seasons
In Angry Birds Seasons, and its Chinese version, Red is a playable character first introduced in the first level of Trick or Treat, or the first level of Hammier Things in the most recent versions of the international version. While the levels and the level selection screens until South Hamerica have him in his design from the original Angry Birds, the level selection screens from Power-Up Test Site, Ham Dunk, Tropigal Paradise, and Fairy Hogmother have him in his design from Angry Birds Toons; while, in the level selection screens from Marie Hamtoinette and Piggywood Studios, he is seen in his design from The Angry Birds Movie. In addition, in the international version of the game, since October 2015, Red can be given optional Bird Hats to wear in the levels, though these are entirely cosmetics.
In gameplay, Red has the same strength as in the original Angry Birds, and, like in said game, can be powered up with the Power Potion. He also appears as the powerup Homing Bird, and the Powerbird Telebird. Each Red the player does not use to complete the levels will award them with a bonus of 10.000 points.
Angry Birds Rio
In the "Rio" storyline of Angry Birds Rio, Red and the other birds were all kidnapped and sent to a lair in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The being responsible of the kidnapping, an anthropomorphic cookatoo named Nigel, showed up and revealed that he had kidnapped Red and his flock to sell them in exchange of one hundred thousand dollars, due to them being part of an "exceptionally rare species".[1] Seeing many other birds trapped in the lair as well, Red and his comrades broke free and liberated the caged birds, including two macaws named Blu and Jewel, who were united by handcuffs. Red and his friends, alongside Blu and Jewel, escaped to a jungle as Nigel sent his marmosets to go after them.
After venturing through the jungle and defeating the marmosets and Nigel himself, Red and his group met Rafael, a friend of Blu, who guided them to a beach where they could find Luiz, a bulldog who could take the handcuffs out of Blu and Jewel. After going to the beach, they found the bulldog, who managed to separate the macaws from each other. However, Jewel was soon after caught by Nigel.
That night, Red and his flock ended up in the middle of a carnival, where they defeated Mauro, the leader of the marmosets, and found Jewel, alongside many other kidnapped birds, hidden in a chicken-like vehicle. Just as Blu was about to free his friend, he was caught by Nigel, who escaped with him and the other birds as Red and his friends went after them. Ending up at an airplane, the birds managed to get aboard one plane that had Blu, Jewel and Nigel. After freeing the other birds, Red and his comrades had a final showdown against Nigel. When the cookatoo was defeated, he tried to escape, only to be caught by one of the plane's propellers, damaging it. Despite the odds, Red and his flock managed to control the plane and crash-land on Piggy Island, right before Foreman Pig and a Minion Pig stole their eggs.
In the "Rio 2" storyline, Red and his friends received a postcard from Blu and Jewel, inviting them to go to Rio de Janeiro to visit them. Accepting the invitation, the birds put themselves inside a wooden box that was supposed to be sent to the city. However, they were sent to many different locations throughout the world, and even ended up on the Moon, much for Red's wrath. From there, they entered the earth's atmosphere and landed at the outsides of Rio as they watched the a firework display, for their pleasure.[2] However, they were soon after forced to deal with the remaining hordes of marmosets. Eventually ending up in a harbor, Red and his comrades freed some birds and dolphins, before committing the error of freeing Nigel himself, who had somehow survived the past incident. Later, on a lake, Red and his flock managed to throw Nigel to the waters. They and Blu later dealt with the remaining marmosets.
In gameplay, Red has the same strength as in past games, though he can be even stronger with the Power Potion. In the "Rio" segment, he uses his design from the original Angry Birds, while the "Rio 2" episodes have him in his design from Angry Birds Toons. He is first used in the first level of Smugglers' Den, or in the first level of Playground in the newer versions. When tapping onto the screen when Red is launched, he will scream, but this will not do anything. Each Red the player does not use to complete the levels will award them with a bonus of 10.000 points.
In addition, Red is featured as the powerup Samba Burst. Here, he will be wearing a fruit hat, and will have a happy expression. When he collides onto any surface, he will make all the surrounding objects shake and launch them.
Angry Birds Friends
In Angry Birds Friends, Red appears as a playable character. Originally, he had his design from the original Angry Birds, though later updates started to show him in his design from Angry Birds Toons. Red is a character that is featured in tournaments, as well as the Piggy Tower and the Star Cup in newer versions. He is first used in the first level of the Piggy Tower which introduces the player to the mechanics of the game. In gameplay, Red has the same strength as in past games, though he can be even stronger with the Power Potion, the King Sling, and/or special slingshots. Originally, when tapping onto the screen when he was launched, he would scream, but this would not do anything. In more recent versions, he does nothing when the screen is tapped. Each Red the player does not use to complete the levels will award them with a bonus of 10.000 points, though this score can be slightly higher in the Star Cup if he is leveled up.
Bad Piggies
In Bad Piggies, Red appears as an enemy. In levels, he is shown with a slightly modified version of his design from the original Angry Birds, though he also makes a small cameo in a cutscene of Tusk 'til Dawn, with his design from Angry Birds Toons.
In gameplay, Red first appears in the seventeenth level of Flight in the Night. He would later appear in most later levels of the episodes, as well as in the first level (and then later) of Tusk 'til Dawn and the last levels of The Road to El Porkado. He commonly appears as one single bird, and it is very rare to see him in mass (apart from a few levels in Flight in the Night, or with other birds such as Chuck and the Blues. At first, he will be sleeping, though he can be woken up with the noise of the player's vehicle. If the camera is not showing Red, an icon showing his location and if he is about to be woken up will appear. If Red is awake, he will try to detect the player's vehicle's presence (or the pig himself, usually he has to be in the vehicle to wake him up. Engine noise with no pig will not affect him, or any other birds.). If he succeeds, he will jump onto the slingshot and launch himself towards the player's vehicle. Red is quite strong, and can damage fragile vehicles, unless the player uses the Super Glue on them.
Angry Birds Star Wars II
In Angry Birds Star Wars II, Red makes a cameo in the background of the Bird Side version of Rise of the Clones and the title screen, as a peach-colored building on Coruscant.
Angry Birds Go!
- Main article: Red/Angry Birds Go!
In Angry Birds Go!, Red appears as the first default playable character, though he can also appear as an opponent in some races and Versus (the latter only in the 1.0.0 version). In gameplay, Red has his own Special Power, which is a boost that will temporarily increase his speed leaving a trail of red feathers behind him.
Angry Birds Epic
- "Protects the party. A real hero!"
- — Description, Angry Birds Epic
In Angry Birds Epic, Red appears as the main default character. At the start of the events of the game, he and Chuck were minding their business as usual, until they were attacked by hordes of Minion Pigs led by Wizpig and Prince Porky. The pigs managed to defeat the birds in no effort, stole their eggs and their personal equipment, and kidnapped Chuck. Furious, Red ventured through the South Beach and rescued his yellow friend. At the Cobalt Plateaus, they got one egg and found Matilda crying because her garden was destroyed by Porky. The white bird soon after joined their group. The flock then chased Porky through the Golden Fields, until the pig used his air balloon to escape to Desert Island, which supposed a problem for the flock as they could not cross the Limestone Lagoon that separated Pig Island and Desert Island. Fortunately, Bomb came in with his Bird Ship, only for him to be attacked by a Pirate, who stole the ship's rudder. After retrieving the rudder and rescuing Jake, Jay and Jim, who had been surrounded by the prince and some troops, Red and his comrades managed to retrieve the second egg on the castle.
Later, the flock passed through the Pirate Coast, the Slingshot Woods and the Great Cliffs, before going to the Star Reef to rescue the third egg. Back at the Great Cliffs, Red, Chuck and Bomb were fooled by the pigs and kidnapped. While Chuck and Bomb were freed, the cage Red was in was taken to the sky by Prince Porky's airship. However, the other birds, with the help of Professor Pig, managed to build their own Airship and rescue the red bird. At the Snowy Peak, they got the fourth egg and ventured through the Islands in the Sky, the Pumpkin Plateau, and the Square Forest.
Right outside of the entrance of Pig City, where the fifth and final egg was, Red and his flock found themselves unable to continue with their adventure due to the walls and catapults blocking their way though. By Professor Pig's advice however, they went to the Moorlands and got a Submarine, which they used to pass through a mine field and enter the city. There, they had a duel against Wizpig. Later, they broke through the castle and got the fifth egg.
In a sudden turn of events, Wizpig revealed his true colors to the others and used his magic to get the egg and King Pig's crown before going to the Hog Head Mountain and make himself a Magic Shield to protect himself there. The flock followed him and managed to destroy the shield by defeating the enemies that protected it. Red and his comrades had a definitive showdown against Wizpig, who was aided by Lefty and Righty. However, the pig was defeated. With his last strengths, Wizpig used his own magic to transform into Demonic Wizpig, a state so powerful that no bird could defeat him. However, with the help of Prince Porky, who gave Demonic Wizpig the final strike, the flock got the fifth egg and King Pig's crown. The group then went back to Pig City and gave the king his crown, with him thanking them.
In gameplay, Red's statistics in Angry Birds Epic are as follows:
Angry Birds Stella
In Angry Birds Stella, Red made a couple of cameo appearances. His first cameo was on Willow's phot where a red circle is next to a black circle and a yellow triangle. His second cameo was in Stella Finds the EggSpark, manifesting the body of Optimus Prime, to promote Angry Birds Transformers (see below). Red's third and final cameo was in an arcade game that featured him on there.
Angry Birds Transformers
- Main article: Red/Angry Birds Transformers
In Angry Birds Transformers, when the EggSpark crash landed on Piggy Island, he was transformed into the leader of the Autobirds, Optimus Prime, the dedicated soldier Ultra Magnus, the evil doppelganger Nemesis Prime, the speedy Blurr and can combine with his fellow Autobirds Mirage, Sunstreaker, Ironhide, Prowl and sometimes Rodimus, into Optimus Maximus forming the torso.
Angry Birds POP!
In Angry Birds POP!, Red appears as a permanent character. Initially, when the game was called Angry Birds Stella POP!, he was a limited character who could only be used during an event.
In gameplay, Red appears in the "Drop the Pigs" and "Defeat King Pig" levels, though he can be optionally replaced with a Guest Star. When the Bird Gauge is full, he will be able to use the Rock Pop, where he will be able to pop a short line of bubbles.
Angry Birds Fight!
In Angry Birds Fight!, Red was the first out of six playable characters the player could choose to use. Other than being a playable character, he also appeared as an icon in the matching board. Like all of the other birds in the game, Red was customizable to the player's preference, and the player would be able to purchase costumes and weapons for Red with in-game currency.
In gameplay, the player could not play directly as Red; rather, they had to make him attack his enemy by till-matching various small birds. Matching three birds would have popped them out, and matching four or more would activate the specific bird's special ability. If four of Red's icons were matched, then random panels would be blocked out with wooden boxes on the opponent player's matching board.
Once the round was over, the two battling players began fighting, and the player's success would entirely be based on how many points they were able to gather.
Angry Birds 2
In Angry Birds 2, Red appears as the first playable character the player can use, making his first playable appearance in the very first level of the game. He can also be used in the Arena, as long as the game allows the player to use him. In addition, Red has his own daily event, named Red's Rumble, which can be played on Mondays.
In gameplay, Red can be used in any level as long as the player has a card of his. When tapping onto the screen when he is launched, he will make a small scream that will produce a short, red line. If a building is caught by that line, it will be pushed to the other side. This ability works better in tall, unstable buildings, and will not have much effect in structures that are well held. While Red can normally be used only once, filling the Destructometer can give the player a card with Red, allowing them to use him again. The amount of points Red can gather depends on his Bird Power, which can be leveled up by giving him enough feathers, upgrading the slingshot, etc.
Angry Birds World Tour
In Angry Birds World Tour, Red is a playable character who is first used in the first level of North America, and is a recurring character in the other episodes. Similar to past physics-based puzzle games, he has no ability when launched.
Angry Birds Ace Fighter
Red once again appeared in Angry Birds Ace Fighter as the icon and main character. He appeared in promotional material and trailers for the game.
Red's Description In-Game:
Red has outstanding leadership skills, but he is nervous all the time. He is liable to mistake the smallest sound as the enemy firing the first shot. He's even mistaken the wind blowing through the trees for the distant oink of the hostile pig.
Rovio announced that the game would be discontinuing due to adjustment of structure platform, as well as an expired contract with Siamgame. On September 6th, 2016, the game was removed from the Play and App stores and recharge was turned off, making the game nearly impossible to play. On October 10th, servers were shut down.
The gameplay was based on a Shoot em up style, with the player located at the bottom of the screen as the enemies fly downwards from the very top. Not much was known about Red's role specifically in the game. It was known that he was one of 4 different playable characters, and could be paired with different kinds of planes.
Angry Birds Blast!
In Angry Birds Blast!, Red is a non-playable character. In the game, various Reds were kidnapped and put in balloons. To free them, the player has to tap two or more balloons of the same colors that are connected. They can also use the Slingshot to free one single Red instantly. The Red birds appear in red-colored balloons.

He still acts the same as in other Angry Birds media but he doesn't go on the slingshot as much he does in the games. His behaviour is still mostly being angry but he can feel other emotions as well like being happy, getting upset and more.

Piggy Tales

Angry Birds Slingshot Stories

Relationships
Chuck
Red's best friend is Chuck. Though Red can be annoyed by Chuck's arrogant personality, he acts as a parental figure towards him[3] and respects and trusts him. In addition, when Chuck was seemingly crushed by the slingshot, Red regretted his friend's "loss", only to immediately afterwards find out that he was indeed alive and perfectly fine, confusing him.[4]
Bomb
Other of Red's friends is Bomb. Red acts as a parental figure towards Bomb[3] and respects and trusts him, though he can be annoyed by his stupidity.
Jay, Jake and Jim
Red is good friends with Jay, Jake and Jim. Despite the brothers' irresponsibility and disobedience, Red still tolerates them and acts as a parental figure towards them.[3] Also, whenever the triplets save the eggs from the pigs, Red likes spending a while playing with them as a reward.[5]
Terence
Terence is another ally of Red. Terence and Red have relationship with each other, though they do not interact very often with each other.
King Pig
It is shown that Red hated King Smooth Cheeks much more than he hated Leonard. While it is unknown how the two first met, perhaps the earliest incident involving both the monarch and the bird was when the former decided to steal the birds' eggs to eat them. Despite having been defeated countless times, King Pig has never given up, and this, as well as him surviving his encounters with the Angry Birds, has made him a constant threat to the eggs and a thorn to Red's side.
Prince Porky
Red is in neutral terms with Prince Porky. The two first met when King Pig sent Porky and Wizpig to steal the birds' eggs. While both were initially enemies, they had to team up after Wizpig betrayed the pigs and stole King Pig's crown and an egg. Later, at the Hog Head Mountain, Porky cooperated with the Red and his comrades to defeat Wizpig, who had just turned into Demonic Wizpig. Following that battle, Porky shared a time with the Angry Birds. The current state of Red's relationship with Porky remains unknown.
