Red Bird
The Red Bird (Ca-Caw!) appears to be analogous to Classic Red Bird. Besides a graphical redesign, the Red Bird seems to be the same as always.

Blue Birds
The Blue Birds (Bip! Bap! Bop!) appear to be analogous to Classic Blue Birds. Again graphically redesigned, the Blue Birds still have the tripling ability.

Black Bird
The Black Bird (Ka-Boom!) appears to be analogous to Classic Black Bird. Graphically redesignedm the Black Bird is still an explosive, able to be detonated ever manually or shortly after impact.

Big Brother Bird
The Big Brother Bird (Bash!) appears to be analogous to Classic Big Brother Bird, but now green in color. It seems to have no ability besides its mass and momentum.

Lazer Bird
The Lazer Bird (Zzzt!) appears to be analogous to Classic Yellow Bird, but now purple in color and with a slightly different ability. The player taps the screen, choosing a new directional target. The bird then turns at a sharp angle and accelerates toward the new target.

Ice Bird
The Ice Bird (Froshh!) is a new bird that appears to freeze an area on impact. From the video released in the March 8th announcement, you can see that the Ice Bird explodes (not destroying anything) on impact with a structure, and covers the surounding blocks with ice (probably making the blocks brittle and easier to break).

Who Are They?
On February 17, 2012, the Angry Birds Facebook page added a photo gallery called "Who are they?' and included images of the Angry Birds Space characters in metal canisters. The same images appeared on the Angry Birds Google+ page, but the image names on this site gave insight into the identity of the birds in the canisters.
On 2/27/12 the image for "lazerb" was updated to show the canister open.
